At Deckers X Lab, everything is an experiment. We continue to test ways to make things better and build products for a better planet.
Deckers X Lab is under the Deckers Brands umbrella, along with UGG, HOKA ONE ONE, Teva, Sanuk, and Koolaburra by UGG. At Deckers Brands, cardboard is our second largest material purchase by volume, second only to sheepskin.
To reduce our cardboard consumption, we are sending e-commerce deliveries in only one box. For our customers who order online, we “ship in own container” (SIOC) – that means no more shoe box inside of a cardboard carton. While our primary goal is to ensure that the product is protected until it reaches the end consumer, we are also focused on re-engineering packaging to reduce excess and using more sustainable materials where possible.
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) mark on our boxes means that the paper comes from responsibly managed forests. To become FSC certified, forest operations must meet demanding environmental, social, and economic requirements, as confirmed by an independent third party such as SCS Global Services.
Finally, we hope our boxes get reused and recycled. We have added an extra strip of adhesive so the box can be shipped and sealed one more time, and have printed reminders to recycle on our packaging.
